Celestial Tai Chi sword - Neptune Searching the Sea
Neptune Searching the Sea
Two and a half years ago my friend Maureen and I decided to give Tai Chi a go. We headed off to the Mulgrave Centre on Thursday night and recieved a very warm welcome from Instructor Yan Ding and her dedicated Assistant Instructor, Stephen Petzold.

After one lesson we were hooked, but had to wonder if we would ever learn after the first moves of that lesson. We diligently progressed through levels 1 and 2,struggled through 3 and 4 and then it seemed to get a little easier through levels 5 and 6.

I had to oversome very painful aching arms, but was always reassured by Yan and Stephen to take it easy. They both said: "Do not push beyond your movement ability, take it easy, do not strain yourself".

Due to unforseen circumstances, we missed a couple of lessons at Mulgrave, so we decided to "make up" at the Box Hill Centre. Grand Master Eng Chor Khor and his worthy team of instructors also made us welcome and out odd make-ups became permanent weekly visits. We now attend both nights and just love it.

I have a little daughter who has profound disabilities and the pressure of her 24/7 care is huge, to say the least. Tai Chi helps to de-stress, keeps me healthy and less exahausted and it also takes my mind off everything other than remembering what moves I should be making. Very good brain training.

We have completed our revision of Yang Style Levels 1 to 6 and are now learning Wu Dong Tai Chi Sword with Instructor Yan and Wild Goose Chi Kung with Grand Master Eng Chor. We are again wondering if we can possibly learn these movements, but are determined to give it our best shot, hoping it doesn't take forever.

Eng Chor and Yan with their great team of instructors are very patient and understanding and to all new students I say, "Don't give up, keep learning even if it seems to take a long time. If Maureen and I can do it, you can too".

The benefits will certainly overcome the difficulties that we all experience in the beginning of learning to practice Tai Chi.
